Alpe d'Huez is a ski resort located at an altitude of 1,860m in the Oisans mountain range of the French Alps, and
is known as a mecca for road cyclists around the world. It is a legendary uphill course.
In the history of the Tour de France,
it is considered one of the most dramatic and symbolic stages for competition, and many cycling enthusiasts come here every year to conquer this stage.
Summit altitude: 1,860m above sea level Elevation gain: approximately 1,100m Course length: 14 km Average gradient: 7.9% ~ 8.1% (maximum gradient of about 13%)
The first three hairpin turns are the steepest and most challenging, with gradients exceeding 10~11%.
There are 21 hairpins (Hairpins) steeped in history. Each hairpin has a sign with the names of legendary
riders who won the Tour de France Alpe d'Huez stage.
21st hairpin: Fausto Coppi, the first winner in 1952
7th hairpin: Known as the **'Dutch Corner'.**
In the past, Dutch riders were strong here. On Tour de France day, Dutch fans from all over the world gather wearing orange clothes and hold a frenzy of cheering.
I wonder if there will be another cheering event at the 7th hairpin this year's Tour.
