I've been getting really stressed by a certain riding style lately,
and I'm curious what the rest of you think, so I'm writing this lol
During group rides, some members suddenly kick off an interval on flat ground,
or when a not-even-that-long mild uphill starts, they stand up out of the saddle and start dancing away, spiking the pace hard—there are several members who do this
ahh.. I really don't know why this bothers and annoys me so much..
(Of course, climbs over 3 minutes are open season, no complaints there) But nobody ever says anything about it, you know?
To begin with, ramping up the pace during a ride that wasn't announced as a training or workout ride
is essentially breaking the flow of the whole pack, and that's what really gets on my nerves
People without enough capacity can't even keep up, and trying not to get gapped seems to raise the risk of an accident too..
Of course, this is 100% my personal opinion lol
My current FTP is 3.5 (per RideWithGPS/Garmin)
Since I naturally prefer a steady-state riding style, I'm a bit worried I might just be trying to force the whole ride into my own personal preference,
so I wanted to ask what everyone here thinks.
1. Intervals and pace spikes are definitely inconsiderate on a ride that wasn't announced in advance as a training/workout ride
2. Even in a pack ride, riding at your own capacity is your own freedom—if you're worried about getting dropped, train and keep up, and if it's too hard or annoying, just ride solo
What do you all think?
