Hello.
On Friday, February 20th, I got into a slip accident while riding on the Han River bike path (near Tancheon) and I've been receiving hospital treatment.
The exact location is where you pass over Tancheon Bridge from Songpa, turn right, and reach the point where the construction ends below Cheongdam Bridge.
To be more specific, it's exactly the corner where the closed original bike path meets the detour bike path.
After checking the accident location,
I found the following hazards at that corner section.
1. The detour bike path was joined to the side of the existing pedestrian walkway, and the existing walkway (still in its original pavement condition) was kept as the extended section of the bike path
> This created a slight height difference, which caused dust/asphalt gravel to collect at the corner
2. Instead of removing the existing lane-marking paint (bike lane vs. walkway), they simply painted over it with black paint
> Possibly due to the construction, water had been sprayed there
3. There used to be railing posts installed along the edge of the walkway, and the posts were removed at the point where the detour bike path connects
> The holes where the railing posts had been embedded were just left as-is
4. All of this was concentrated right at the corner
Water had been sprayed on the bike path, and since I didn't want water splashing onto my bike and clothes, I was riding at a slower-than-usual speed, and right after
rounding the corner where the accident happened, I slipped as if on an ice rink and went down.
A fractured collarbone, multiple rib fractures... according to the X-ray results I sustained fractures in 5 locations, plus abrasions in 5 more.
After that
On 2026.02.25, I called the Songpa* Information Center at Hangang Park, the manager responsible for that section. I received a reply saying that Hyun*Construction, the contractor for that section, would handle it through insurance.
On 2025.02.25, I spoke on the phone with someone who identified themselves as the construction manager at Hyun*Construction. They said they'd process it through insurance after reporting to headquarters.
Since then I've called multiple times, and I just keep hearing the same thing repeated. "We've reported it to headquarters, so the insurance company will contact you."
Even after 3 weeks, no contact ever came.
Here's what I've confirmed as of week 4 since the accident.
Local government: Said Hyun*Construction would handle it through insurance
Manager in charge: Said it was reported to headquarters and I'd be contacted (turned out to actually just be a subcontractor employee)
Hyun* headquarters: Said the subcontractor responsible for construction on that section would provide compensation.
Local government: Said the subcontractor would handle it.
Subcontractor: Said Hyun*Construction decided to handle it through insurance.
Hyun*Construction: Said reports/approvals are being delayed because accidents keep coming in, but they'd get back to me soon.
This is the back-and-forth over the past 4 weeks.
It looks like even the report hasn't gone through yet since the accident was filed.
Today I contacted Hyun*Construction and requested that the insurance claim be filed and the insurer confirmed by this Friday.
But it probably won't happen.
From what I've heard, it's been confirmed that 9 people, including myself, were involved in accidents.
Starting next week, I plan to file a police report with the Songpa Police Station and submit a civil complaint to the Songpa District Office.
At this point, whether it's Hyun*Construction, the subcontractor, or the local government—none of that matters to me anymore.
