I looked up smart tags.

When stolen,

If you leave it alone,

the location will be tracked irregularly and an alarm will sound on the thief's phone within 1 to 6 hours that there is a tag nearby.

If Lost Mode is turned on,

the location tracking interval becomes shorter, making tracking easier, but

the thief will be able to perfectly locate the tag as an alarm sounds on the thief's phone along with a sound from the tag.

If you hold the phone up to the tag, your contact information will appear.

This is due to Google's security policy to prevent stalking.

The thief will also be alerted that there is a tag nearby.

While turning on Lost Mode makes location tracking faster,

there are also drawbacks...

Anyway,

the thief will feel the pressure of being tracked. In this case, the options are:

1. Find the tag, remove it, and run away.

2. Throw the bike somewhere remote and run away.

3. Surrender.

Which choice will they make...?

I thought a tag would be an all-powerful solution, but

it seems that the golden time is before the thief receives the alarm.

It's impossible to know how many times location tracking will occur within that hour.

Still, it's better than nothing.

The best option is

to disassemble the tag, remove the speaker (YouTube makes it look easy), and put it inside the frame.

Even if Lost Mode is turned on, there will be no sound, but

the thief will continue to receive alarms that a tag is present.

If they hold the phone up to the bike, it will say that the tag is inside the frame.

The thief will probably have a mental breakdown.

Removing the tag is difficult and there's no other option but to throw the bike away somewhere far away.

Or, if you just put the tag inside the frame so that the speaker doesn't sound, it could create even more pressure.

Imagine stealing a bike,

constantly hearing noises from within the bike, and receiving constant alarms on your phone saying there's a tag present. Removing the tag is almost impossible.

The thief will be under significant pressure.

It seems that storing the tag inside the frame is the best solution.

I think I'll wrap the tag tightly in bubble wrap and put it in the chain stay.

Since the tag battery lasts for 500 days,

you only need to replace the battery once a year during disassembly maintenance.

There are other advantages to using a screw-type vise.
