When the Gyodong Bridge to Gyodong Island first opened,
I crossed it a few times using a motorcycle, bicycle, and so on.
Starting last year I think? I saw a lot of posts saying access had been restricted.
So to confirm, I filed a civil complaint, and got the response below.

I am Colonel Kim In-hyun, Commander of the 5th Marine Brigade, 2nd Marine Division.
First, thank you sincerely for your interest in and support of the Marine Corps.
The civil complaint you submitted through the People's e-Petition portal has been forwarded to our unit.
2. You raised a valuable
point regarding the "reason for restricting bicycle access to Gyodong Island."
3. Let me explain the matter you raised.
Regarding your inquiry about the "reason bicycle access to Gyodong Island is restricted," this falls under
the "JCS Regulation 441-01, Regulation on Access Permits for the Controlled Protection Zone North of the Civilian Control Line"
(amended May 9, 2025), under which bicycle access to the Civilian Control Zone and its island areas' controlled protection zone
is not permitted.

Article 16 (Access Measures for Equipment, Vehicles, etc.)
① Access for equipment and vehicles into the Civilian Control Zone and its island areas' controlled protection zone
shall be handled as follows.

2. Access via motorcycles, bicycles (including e-bikes), and personal mobility devices (electric kick scooters,
electric two-wheeled self-balancing vehicles, etc.) is not permitted.

However, it is specified that for group events or group-type visits where the head of a relevant administrative agency or organization
has requested prior consultation in writing such as an official document, the commanding officer of the jurisdictional unit may grant access
taking into account the purpose of access and whether it poses any risk to military operations.
We confirmed with the unit currently responsible for access at the Civilian Control checkpoint at Gyodong Bridge
regarding bicycle access into the Civilian Control Zone and its island areas' controlled protection zone, and confirmed that since
June 2025, there has been no bicycle access.
4. Finally, we sincerely apologize once again for any concern caused by this complaint despite your busy schedule, and
our unit will continue to do our utmost to uphold the traditions of the Marine Corps and become a Marine Corps
trusted by the public going forward.
