Hello, members who enjoy riding along the Han River.
Recently, there have been frequent close calls between cyclists and runners (pedestrians) occupying the bike path in the Hannam Bridge underpass area at the north end of the Han River. This is a shared notice to urge caution.
1. Current Situation and Problems
The north end of Hannam Bridge is where the entrance from the city through Hannam IC (Rabbit Hole) directly connects to the bike path.
Sudden Entry: Many runners jump onto the bike path without checking left and right after exiting the IC.
Earphone Use: Most runners wear noise-canceling earphones and cannot hear bell sounds or shouts at all.
Parallel Riding: Crews often gather under the bridge and start riding together, occupying the road.
2. Accident Risk Points
In particular, blind spots occur due to the pillars under Hannam Bridge. Even those who usually train at high speeds need to be extremely careful in this section. In case of an accident with pedestrians, riders are overwhelmingly at fault. Not only can it lead to damage to assets (bicycles), but it can also result in fatal accidents.
3. Safe Riding Tips
Slow Down at IC Section: It is recommended to stop pedaling and ride slowly near Hannam IC.
Signal in Advance: Ring the bell once or twice before corners and IC entrances to alert others of your presence.
Daytime Headlights Required: Visually making the rider's position easily recognizable is a great help in preventing accidents.
For those who train hard every day, this section may be frustrating due to the interruption of flow. However, accidents happen in an instant. Let's ride a little more leisurely around Hannam Bridge to protect ourselves and our precious bicycles!
May you always have safe and enjoyable rides.
