When buying a used Campy wheel, be sure to get the center lock ring.

Many of you might already know this, but I'm sharing my experience for those who don't, like me.

After riding a Rim Brake Cannondale Supersix HiMod (2016 model) for a long time, I switched to a Giant TCR Pro last December.

After that, I replaced the wheelset as well, and at the time, I transplanted the rotor and sprocket using the tools I had at home and rode the next day without any problems. So I thought that if it was center lock, all the lock rings would be the same specification.

Then recently, I purchased a Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO 60 C23 wheelset, which I had originally intended to buy, secondhand.

Thinking it would be the same as my existing wheels, I proceeded with the transaction excluding the rotor, lock ring, and sprocket, but when I came home and tried to assemble it, a problem occurred.

The sprocket was mounted normally, but when I tried to fit the rotor and secure the lock ring, the lock ring didn't fit at all.

After searching, I found out that while center lock is compatible with most wheels, in some special cases like Campagnolo hubs, the lock ring used can be different.

When I contacted the seller, they said they would provide the lock ring, and it seems the seller didn't know about this at first either. They had a new lock ring that came with their bicycle purchase, so they asked the shop about it, and since the shop said there would be no problem installing it, they thought it would be better to use the new one instead of the original lock ring that came with this wheelset and left the new lock ring at the shop.

But when I received it, it was the same product I had, just a type that uses a BB tool instead of a sprocket tool.

In the end, I needed the original lock ring that was installed, and when I told the seller about this, they said they would give me the lock ring that was installed on this wheelset. The seller must have been bothered by having to contact each other several times even after the sale, but I'm grateful for their kind and helpful response.

By the way, it wasn't through Dosa, it was through Carrot.

Anyway, due to my ignorance, I couldn't go cycling for 3 days, and I'm reflecting on myself, thinking that if I don't do my research beforehand, my body suffers like this...

Conclusion

Those of you buying Campagnolo wheelsets secondhand, be sure to get the lock ring included as well.

Even the seller may not know about this if they don't do maintenance themselves or don't have assembly experience.

After experiencing this, when I looked at other secondhand sales posts again, I noticed that some people were taking separate photos of the lock ring and posting them. I used to wonder why they were posting that photo separately, but there was a reason for everything.

Additionally, my existing BB tool was a type with the center blocked, so I couldn't use it, and I ended up buying a new BB tool as well.

I plan to receive the lock ring from the seller on my way home from work today and install it, and since the newly ordered BB tool has also arrived, I'm hoping I can ride without problems tomorrow.

I hope this has been helpful to anyone considering purchasing a Campagnolo wheelset secondhand like I did.
