None of the people around me support him, so I got curious about where on earth that 40% approval rating came from
and decided to look into it.
☝️ Who wanted the poll, and who conducted it.
Commissioned by: Asia Today. The chief editor is Ko Seong-guk of Ko Seong-guk TV.
Conducted by: Korea Public Opinion and Reputation Research Institute
Of the 22 polls it has conducted since its founding in 2022,
14 were commissioned by Ko Seong-guk TV.
☝️ The questions from the Korea Public Opinion and Reputation Research Institute
conducted on January 3–4, 2025.
Q1.
How much do you support President Yoon Suk-yeol at present?
👉 The proper order would be to first ask whether one supports him, and if so, to then ask
how much they support him.
Because there is no option for "do not support," many people
hang up the phone right here.
And so a poll with a response rate of 4.7% was born.
Q2.
Which party do you usually support or feel even slightly favorable toward?
👉 This question should have come first.. but by switching the order of the questions,
opposition supporters gave up on the survey at question 1, which shaped the respondents'
leanings.
Q 3~5.
Leading questions with built-in intent
Q8.
Yoon Suk-yeol's claims are embedded right into the question..
In the end.. most of the people who fiercely oppose Yoon Suk-yeol
hang up the phone at the first question, and they publicly announce the result of
opinion shaped through cunning leading questions posed to those who remain.
And the press company employees who took this and used it verbatim as a headline..
It's not even surprising anymore..
The weather is cold, so how many more nights will the people have to stay up
out in the freezing streets.
From a faraway land, what I can do as a citizen..
seems to be to keep paying attention and gather my heart with others,
so I share this.
